The art collection
Through out the whole hotel you can find original paintings made by different Norwegian artists. This a unique collection which the owners of the hotel, Tyssefaldene, has gained through almost a century. Most represented is the painter Nils Bergslien. He was born in 1858 in Voss and died in Eidfjord, where his recidense was, in 1928. He was nephew of the equally famous sculptor, Brynjulf Bergslien. Nils Bergslien was educated at the painters school og Knut Bergslien an Morten Müller in Christiania in 1871- 72, and at the landscape artist Otto Seitz in Munich from 1876-79. Han was highly a romantic painter and obtained a lot of inspiration from legends, fairytales and norwegian history, in addition to the Hardangervidda and the West Norwegian mountain landscape.
After the hotel opened in 1913, Bergslien was a regular guest here, and the paintings you can see in the fojaee was payment for room and board. He stayed at the hotel for several periods. The scenes of the gnomes and trolls, and of wine drinking monks created a lot of publisity at the time. Other artist which has its place here are Christian Krogh, Hans Ch. Dahl, Knut Bergslien, Frithjof Smith-Hald, Adelsten Normann, Emma Pastor Normann and Marit Ann Bolseth.
